Dennis Calamusa, president of AlliedFlex Technologies, said that companies that once used metal cans on their packaging would not have to change the way they do business if they wanted to switch to plastic bags. AlliedFlex Technologies is a company that sells stand-up pouch machines.

In other words, the change may be slow. However, there is no doubt that the change is coming.

“Looking ahead, you have to take the first step to making a change,” he said at the recent Global Pouch Forum in Miami.

Many large multinational companies “have the burden of infrastructure. It is very difficult for them to make changes and accept new things.”

“The simplest thing is to do nothing,” he said when it comes to packaging changes and the growing number of ads and promotions to drive sales.

However, he added: "Sometimes, advertising and promotion will be much more expensive than changing your packaging."

He said that companies that were plagued by existing canning lines could start to adopt bags in a step-by-step manner.

“When we heard some people say, 'In order not to be able to do it, I have to throw away all the canning lines and replace them with new ones.' I said, nonsense, you step by step. We have seen quite a lot. The company made bold changes, and those companies that didn't want to change and didn't want to adjust would be far behind,” Calamusa said.

Calamusa has been selling bag machines for more than two decades, watching many companies use what they call "the power of the bag" to update their product lines and enter new areas in the mall.

"I hear a lot of people say, ‘When is the cereal industry going to change?’

“I heard a lot of people saying, 'When will the grain industry change packaging?' You are changing now. The change is not to throw away what we have been using for 50 or even 100 years, accepting new Things, but changes in the transition,” Calamusa said. “That is a change that our industry is embracing.”

According to AlliedFlex Technologies, companies that accept flexible packaging have found more and more opportunities for their products.
